SPACE

A show for 9-12 year olds

Meet Stella and Dorothy, your ‘Modern Experts in Transition’. Today they present their world famous seminar: Transitional Experts for Life. But a surprise call interrupts their best laid plans. Will they be brave enough to take their own advice and transition into the unknown?

SPACE is a theatre clown show for 9-12 years olds exploring what it is like to start somewhere new, make mistakes and be yourself. It was developed with the help of Primary seven children who are, themselves, about to go through the transition process to High School.

SPACE was developed in collaboration with four Primary schools (Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth & Kinross) before touring in 2018.  SPACE toured again in 2019 and 2021.

Creative Team

Performers – Fiona Ferrier and Rachel Colles

Directors – Maria Oller/Nick Bone

What the teachers said…..

“The show managed to capture everything that comes with transition throughout our lives. The pupils were engaged from start to finish”
“They were all laughing and left feeling really positive. It’s a great conversation starter for further work in class”

“Minimised the worry about meeting new people with easy strategies. Loved the message about being yourself”

“The show managed to capture everything that comes with transition throughout our lives, although the context was office based the children “got it”. The energy of these ladies in a very hot space was admirable. I would hope that this show was repeated annually as it really did explore all transitional issues and worries. I am already looking forward to continue this working partnership.”

“The pupils were engaged from start to finish. This is a testament to the two ladies as this cohort of children tend to vote with their feet, body language or attitude. They were totally engaged.”

What the kids said……

“I enjoyed it a lot because they could have just come in and talked to us about high school which would have been quite boring but instead they put on an awesome comedy with songs and dances while talking about the same subject.”

“I am still killing myself laughing”

“It was funny and good and it made me feel safer about going up to high school.”

“Funny to make a worrying topic more enjoyable and relaxed. Really good advice and messages. Relating the show to us and what we talk about.”

“It was funny and has made me not that scared for high school.”

“….they were showing a message that we have to enjoy high school and not to be worried. Now I am looking forward to high school and can’t wait.”

“I have learnt that I should be myself when I go to high school.”

“……getting lost, personally that was one of my biggest worries but now I know I’ll be OK.”
